In the Garden of Eden there were many trees. Two of them had special names: the ‘Tree of Life’ and the ‘Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil’. This latter name, somewhat cumbersome, might be shortened to the ‘Tree of Death’. For God warned Adam, “When you eat of it you will surely die” (Gen. 2:17).
A prayer I repeat when I have trouble sleeping comes from the traditional Stations of the Cross liturgy. It goes, “I adore You, O Christ, and I love You. By Your holy cross You redeemed the world.”
In the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, built over the cave where Jesus was born, there is also an arresting reminder of His death.
I want to share with you a prayer that I’ve been praying lately. I’m not usually keen on canned prayers, but this one is a humdinger.
